Ibanez was one of the first non-USA companies to demonstrate that first-rate guitar manufacturing can occur outside of North America. From John Scofield to Steve Vai, Ibanez devotees are everywhere. Ibanez has a well-earned reputation for producing good sounding, solid playing instruments at an affordable price.
Ibanez’s high-end guitars are still made in Japan and, like many companies, they’ve also started outsourcing their lower-cost guitars to South Korea. Overall, these guitars have been received very well. One of the most popular of the Korean-made Ibanez guitars is the RG350DX. Why is that the case? Read and see!
When you pick up an RG350DX, the first thing you’ll notice is how fast the neck is. Along with Carvin, Ibanez makes some of the best, fastest necks you’ll ever play. The thin, 3-piece Wizard II neck allows for effortless shredding.
We had no problems ripping some fast runs and sweep arpeggios. The neck has 24 jumbo frets that facilitate such effortless motion.
We were impressed with the variety of sounds available for such a guitar. The pickups are by Ibanez and are an Infinity 4 humbucker in the bridge, Infinity 3 humbucker in the neck, and Infinity Single3 in the middle. To be sure, this guitar is geared for high gain shred, but you can definitely get some convincing rock, blues, and fusion sounds as well due to the versatile pickup combination.
The RG350DX includes the tried-and-true Edge III tremolo that allows out-of-this-world whammy action that returns to perfect tuning every time. If you’re not used to adjusting a Floyd-licensed tremolo, it can definitely be a hassle, especially if you’re playing around with alternate tunings, but for most “normal” playing, you shouldn’t encounter any issues.
The finish was a very nice white that looked even better with the guitar’s black hardware. We scoured the guitar high and low to see if we could find any problems in the finish or in the basswood body, but there were none worth reporting. The inlays are Ibanez standards, sharktooth.
We hesitate to call the RG350DX a “budget” guitar because we don’t want anyone to question its quality. Ibanez would be justified in charging twice what they do for this guitar. Buy one before they decide to do just that!
