    Matt Good and Ani …
Matt Good and Ani Difranco are amazing lyricists. But the best, a female Dylan: Joanna Newsom. Complex lyrics, figurative language… The 1 problem: her voice (much like Dylan). Described as a goat, an autistic child, a witch, she encapsulates all these–incredible.

    Y album:
“I dreamed you were skipping little stones across the surface of the water
Frowning at the angle where they were lost, and slipped under forever
    In a mud-cloud, mica-spangled, like the sky’d been breathing on a mirror”

    nice to hear! I …
nice to hear! I wish more people read poetry, I think it would enrich their lives. It’s unfortunate that those best songs you described are rare, and I think people settle for mediocrity in lyrics. We need some Bob Dylan lyricists.

    I teach language …
I teach language arts, actually, and I fully agree! Poetry is language at its best and the best songs have these little poetic gems woven into them.

    hey, if you like …
hey, if you like that line–well, I was wondering if you read poetry ever. It seems many people love and want great lyrics, and poetry, at its best, offers that in abundance, lots of lines to keep with you and remember.
