White Cyc Studio LA Digital Effects

Perhaps you have seen the series Star Trek on television? Have you seen a Star Wars film? Perhaps you have seen a Sci-Fi movie or TV series involving outer space? Maybe you have wondered just how they produced the scenes traveling in outer space? Most of the digital effects for these programs were filmed in a white cyc facility using infinity cycs. The infinity cyc is bent at the underside where the walls and floor join collectively creating a visual effect of unlimited space. A White Cyc Studio LA is required on stage to form an optical illusion of atmosphere.

Star Trek is a good illustration demonstrating the starship Enterprise soaring throughout endless outer space bombarded by stars from a distance plus the cameras zooming in on the spaceship. In the end it will show the starship Enterprise in outer space and the cameras would zoom away from the space ship as the program was concluded. These types of visual effects were carried out using a White Cyc Studio LA. The type of the starship Enterprise was hanging from the ceiling in the middle of a white cyc stage.

What makes a great white cyc studio? The White Cyc Studio LA has to be well built and free of: visual anomalies, seams, grime, visual corners, and sharp angles which induce shadows. The white cyclorama must have: 1) Efficient space for focus images and to avoid crowding, difficult camera angles, and allow for suitable lighting arrangements. 2) A high threshold to counteract challenging camera angles, and lighting complications. 3) A couple of cyc walls to film against to avoid shooting restrictions. 4) Efficient time for setup, shooting and take down if booking a white cyclorama studio.

Several film facilities don’t have their own white cyclorama studio, so if they want to use a white cyclorama facility they go out lot and lease one of several studios in LA. There are a number of facilities close by LA. Let’s examine what a few studios offer.
