Portable media devices for music and videos are all the craze these days, and the Apple iPod is the unquestionable leader in terms of marketplace share and unit sales. That being said though, doesn’t connote that it is the only iPod on the marketplace that’s worthy. There are a bunch of different alternatives to the Apple name brand which are very akin in not only the features they provide but also in the quality they offer and the price. For example, the latest Gen 5 line of Archos MP3 players gets my vote as the best device for the money. Not too long ago I picked up the 80 GB 605 WiFi model and I am so impressed with it that I am not the least bit depressed that I got rid of my iPod.
Archos MP3 players are separated from the rest of the pack by many things. It of course plays music like all the rest of them, and with the 80 gigs of storage that I have, I’ve been able to put every song that I have onto the 605 WiFi with tons of room left over. It supports quite a few assorted types of five, including .wav,.mp3, and the.WMA whether it is protected or not. This means I don’t have to mess around with conversion software before loading the songs, making Archos MP3 players far more convenient and versatile than other products.
The Gen 5 line is much more than a simple music player though. Archos MP3 players have a superb 4.3-inch full-color touchscreen that can be activated with the touch of a finger or the included stylus, making navigation through the various menus a simple task. Because of the large size of the display on this unit, it makes it perfect for watching movies, TV shows or even streaming videos from YouTube. It yields an amazingly sharp picture that is clearly visible in all kinds of lighting. I only shake my head and feel sorry for people who try to watch movies on the tiny iPod monitor. Why put yourself through that when the bigger, better Archos MP3 players are available?
A really cool thing about the Archos MP3 player that I don’t have to be tied up to the notebook to handle all my content. Because it has a easy WiFi connection, I can do all of my downloading on the go. The Archos player also has the Opera Web browser included into it which makes it very simple to surf the net, check my e-mail, and do all of the gameplaying that I want wherever I’m at. This isn’t something that’s possible with many of the other players out there. With most of the other brands, you don’t have the option of downloading on the go or making any updates until you are actually at a computer.
If you really think about making the purchase of a portable media player, don’t just do what everyone else does and pay money for one of those expensive iPods just because of what it is. Instead, I recommend giving Gen 5 Archos MP3 players a try. They are a bunch more scientifically advanced than all of their competition and they are cheaper. Getting more for less… isn’t that what smart shopping is all about?
