by Ryse Edwards

When a beginners guitar lessons first start, it’s difficult for the instructor to go over all the “basics of the basics.” Not only are you wasting your 30 minutes to an hour that you’re paying for, it will mean many more lessons and more money. So for everyone needing the beginners guitar lessons, here’s a quick guide to help.

First off, the acoustic guitar and electric guitar are pretty much the same. Granted with an electric version you hook it up to an amplifier, but outside of that the only difference is when they were invented, and the sounds they display. The acoustic guitar dates back to the later 1700s and the electric guitar didn’t surface until the 1930s.

These beginners guitar lessons start with understanding the framework of a guitar. Things like the headstock, tuners, nut, neck, sound hole, body, and bridge will need to be memorized. Each one plays a crucial role in making great music with your guitar, but if one thing is missing then it all falls apart.

Next is to learn how to hold the pick. Some beginners don’t use a pick to play the guitar. Not using a pick can be very painful to your fingers. Your picking hand must be open and your palm must be facing you. Then, make a loose fist while your thumb stays beside your index finger. Rotate your hand with the knuckle of your thumb facing you.

After that, beginners like you should learn how to tune the guitar before you play it. There are videos on the internet that teach how to tune a guitar on your own without using any electronic tuner.

Oh, and you can’t forget to learn the scales. Most guitar lessons for beginners will include scale playing. So it’s important for you to know which finger hits each string. The first tip we’ll give you is that the thumb doesn’t press any strings. However, as time goes by and you come more adapted, it is an option. For now though, it’s simply support.

Now it’s time to play your first chord. All you need is a few illustrated chord charts and follow the instructions. Memorization is always a benefit, so if you can do it we recommend it. If you want extra practice, play to your favorite songs at home.

Listen, this is the “basics of the basics.” Anyone wanting to utilize beginners guitar lessons should understand there is much more to learn. If you need additional material to get started, you can easily do it with beginners guitar lessons that are reputable.
