This is an amazing Japanese animated movie. It is written by Katsuhiro Otomo Akira, based on a visual novel by Osamu Tezuka called Astro Boy. Rich backdrops balance with cartoon looking lead characters, although dramatic storytelling and commanding visuals defeat film’s shortcomings. Cast includes Kei Kobayashi, Kohki Okada, Taro Ishida, and Kousei Tomita. (106 minutes, 2001)
Doug’s First Movie: The megastar of Television’s Doug is characterized in this bland, formulaic tale, made exclusively for kids. Easy going preteen Doug attempts to spare an animal in need clash with his wish to take his lady friend to the school dance. This movie was built as a direct-to-video production. Dracula’s Daughter: A Spanish language adaptation of the terror classic was filmed simultaneously with the Hollywood rendition on the identical sets although much of the orchestrating and camerawork are actually better in this Spaniosh version! Other chief variance: the ladies are outfitted more provocatively. All that’s missing is a performer with the appeal of Lugosi in the lead role.
