Holiday: First rendition of Philip Barry’s play in reference to non-conformity is a delightful film. An untidy early talkie with projecting that in some cases Astor, Owsley even tops the more renowned’38 rendition. Horton plays the identical role in both films. Exit Wounds: Orin Boyd is a cop who doesn’t follow the rules. He has saved the Vice President of the US, but he didn’t follow orders, so he is sent to Detroit’s precinct 21, its worst area. With his new partner George, they set out to clean up the drug problems in the 21st. When they do, they find a lot of dirty cops are involved.
Quiz Show: This tells the true story of the’58 game show called 21. Charles Van Doren had become a national folk hero. He had appeared on the cover of Time, and Life magazines. People would watch the show in amazement, as the Columbia University English instructor would answer the most amazing and obscure questions. Then they got caught. The whole thing was a scam. Investigator Richard Goodwin unearthed all the facts, and exposed the deception. America was left in shock.
South Park: Bigger, Longer And Uncut: Our dynamic four are in top form in the first feature length film of the TV series. There is a new movie at the theater, a Terrence and Phillips film, and the boys are off to see it. When they arrive at the theater they can’t get in because of the R rating. They overcome this obstacle by paying off a street drunk to get the tickets for them. This is the boy’s first real intense introduction to foul language. They leave the movie fully trained in the new words, and use them whenever they can. This leads to outrage from the parents. Since Terrence and Phillip are Canadian, this ends with the US and Canada going to war.
Jury of One: Trudging melodrama in reference to a lady who goes to shocking extremes to defend her child who is on trial for murder and rape. Gabin plays the magistrate. Cast includes Sophia Loren, Jean Gabin, Henri Garcin, Julien Bertheau, and Michel Albertini. (97 minutes,’74)
